YOKOHAMA TRIENNALE 2011

The 54th Venice Biennale, June 4 to November 27
Venice Biennale is back and bigger than ever. Check out the work by American artist Christian Marclay (Golden Lion for the best artist) and the work by young British artist Haroon Mirza (Silver Lion for a promising young artist) at the ILLUMInations Exhibition curated by art historian and critic Bice Curiger. This year’s Venice is interesting with the national pavilions. Also not to be missed is the German pavilion by Christoph Schlingensief who has won the Golden Lion for Best National Participation.
Art in the Streets @ Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles

Olaf Nicolai; Escalier du Chant
Olaf Nicolai’s most recent sound installation "Escalier du Chant" made specially for the central staircase in the Pinakothek der Moderne. Nicolai has invited twelve international composers to write songs about political events throughout 2011 including Rolf Riehm's "Heulende Wölfe" ("Howling Wolves") which deals with the media coverage of the nuclear catastrophe in Fukushima. With an allusion to Marcel Duchamp’s work “Nude Descending a Staircase”, the artist will transform the staircase into a stage on which visitors become actors.
German Expressionism: The Graphic Impulse
The exhibition traces from Kirchner to Beckmann, from the artist group Die Brücke (means “bridge” in German, representing the group’s intentaion of linking the art of the past with that of the future) in 1905, through the war time of the 1910s, and into 1930s. Through the art of prints, the artists created a sense of value in a fragmented world.
Joan Miró: The ladder of Escape
This is a rare opportunity to enjoy more than 150 paintings, drawings, prints and sculptures across the six decades of Miró's artistic career. This show opens at the Tate Modern on 14 April.
Asian Contemporary Art Week
Now in its seventh year, Asian Contemporary Art Week presents works by 90 artists at 35 New York City museums and galleries in March 2011. Programme highlights include: Mariam Ghani and Barbara London at the Museum of Modern Art, Liu Xiaodong with Alexandra Munroe, David Elliott, Massimiliano Gioni, and Suzanne Cotter with Joe Martin Hill at the Guggenheim Museum.
SINGAPORE BIENNALE 2011 – OPEN HOUSE
Artists' practices are attempts to translate experiences and perspectives. The Singapore Biennale - "Open House" features 63 artists from 30 countries, with many artists creating new works especially for the exhibition. The title "Open House" is conceived as an invitation onto contemporary artistic practice. In conjunction with the exhibition will be artist talks, discussions and performances.
The British Art Show
The British Art Show is recognised as the most ambitious and influential exhibition of contemporary British art. Organised by Hayward Touring exhibitions since 1979, the British Art Show takes place every five years and tours to four different cities across the UK. Curated by Lisa Le Feuvre and Tom Morton this year, the show includes works by 39 artists on the grounds of their significant contribution to international contemporary art in the period 2005 to 2011.
New Directions in the Art of the Moving Image - Smithsonian American Art Museum
Under the leadership of John Hanhardt, the Smithsonian American Art Museum has been assembling a serious collection of video and time-based artwork over the past three years, from Nam June Paik's early experiments with video to Cory Arcangel's reworking of Nintendo games and obsolete computer systems. In 2009, the museum acquired the complete estate archive of the artist Nam June Paik. Nam June Paik: Art and Process is scheduled to open December 2012.
